Privacy Policy
This policy explains what personal information CarsGuyana collects, why we collect it, and the choices you have. CarsGuyana is operated by Caribbean Dynetics. Questions or requests about your information can be sent to admin@carsguyana.com.
Information we collect
- Account details. Your name, email address and password, which is stored only as a one-way hash and never in readable form. Optionally, your phone number.
- Listings. What you post, including details of the vehicle, machine, equipment or part, the price or rental rate and terms, region or town, description, photographs, the phone number you give for the listing, and the contact options you choose (phone, WhatsApp, email). If you mark a listing as sold, the date and, if you choose to give it, the selling price.
- Saved listings and alerts. The listings you save and the searches you ask us to watch, so we can email you about price drops and new matches.
- Location. If you tap "Use my location" next to the featured listings, your browser gives the page your approximate position, which is rounded to about one kilometre and stored only in your own browser to put nearer listings first. It is never sent to us. You can clear it by clearing your browser's site data.
- Payments. If you buy anything, the card payment is processed by Stripe. Your card details go directly to Stripe and we never see or store them. We receive confirmation that a purchase was completed, the amount, what was bought and the listing it was for.
- Technical information. Your IP address, browser and device type and the pages you request, recorded in server logs. When you create an account we also record the IP address, a security cookie identifier and the time, so that we can detect people creating more than one account and prevent fraud and abuse.
- Cookies. We use cookies that keep you signed in and keep the website secure, including a security cookie on the sign in page that identifies your browser to prevent duplicate accounts. Your browser's own storage also keeps a few settings, such as the location you chose to share for the featured listings. Stripe may set its own cookies when you open its payment form.
What is public
Listings are public. Anyone can see a listing's details and photographs. For each listing, the seller chooses how buyers may contact them: by phone, by WhatsApp and by email. A phone number or email address that the seller chooses to show is revealed when a visitor clicks the button to see it; if the seller turns on WhatsApp, visitors can start a WhatsApp chat with that number. If you choose not to show your phone number, we still keep it privately on your account to prevent duplicate accounts. When a listing is posted, its details and the seller's contact details are sent to our moderation team by email so the listing can be reviewed. If a listing is featured, we may also share its photos, title, price and region on CarsGuyana's Facebook and Instagram pages, where Meta's own privacy policy applies; we do not post your phone number or email there unless you show them on the listing. Do not post anything you do not want strangers to see.
Photographs
Photographs taken on a phone can contain hidden data, called EXIF, including the GPS location where the photograph was taken. Our listing form re-saves each photograph in your browser before it is uploaded, which normally removes this data. We cannot guarantee that it always does, for example if your browser does not support the process. If your privacy matters, turn off location tagging in your phone's camera settings, and avoid photographing a vehicle at your home address.
How we use information
- to run the website, show your listings and let buyers and sellers contact each other;
- to process purchases and provide support;
- to send the price-drop and search alert emails you ask for;
- to produce anonymous market statistics for sellers from listing details and reported selling prices, without names, contact details or links to sold listings;
- to detect and prevent fraud, duplicate accounts, spam and other abuse, and to keep the website secure; and
- to meet our legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information.
Who we share it with
- Stripe processes card payments under its own privacy policy.
- Our hosting provider stores the website's data on its servers and delivers the emails we send.
- Google Fonts supplies the typeface inside Stripe's payment form when you open a checkout.
- WhatsApp receives information only if a visitor chooses to open a WhatsApp link. The conversation then takes place on WhatsApp under its own terms.
- Authorities. We may disclose information to law enforcement and other authorities, including the Guyana Police Force and authorities in Canada, where the law requires it or where it is needed to investigate fraud or protect people from harm.
International transfers
The website is operated from Canada and hosted on servers that may be located in other countries. By using the website you understand that your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than Guyana, where data protection laws may differ from those in your country.
How long we keep information
We keep your account and listings until you delete them. You can delete any listing yourself in your hub, turn off alert emails there at any time, and ask us to close your account at any time. Sign up records, such as IP address and the security cookie identifier, are kept for as long as needed to prevent duplicate accounts and fraud, including after an account is closed or removed. Payment and tax records are kept for as long as the law requires.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of your personal information, ask us to correct or delete it, and withdraw consent, for example by turning off WhatsApp on a listing. Email admin@carsguyana.com and we will respond within 30 days. We handle personal information in accordance with applicable data protection law, including Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act and, to the extent it applies, Guyana's Data Protection Act 2023.
Security
We use reasonable safeguards, including encrypted connections and hashed passwords. No online service is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children
CarsGuyana is not intended for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date above.
